Just a month after Cloud Strife was announced for Super Smash Bros. for the 3DS and WiiU, another surprising and exciting news comes from Masahiro Sakurai himself: Bayonetta is also joining Smash! Sakurai recalled the result of the Super Smash Bros. Fighter Ballot, revealing that the angel-hunting witch Bayonetta is among the top five characters US players want to play as in Smash. She is also Europe's most requested character, and among all the realizable characters, she is the overall number one choice of players worldwide.
A blockbuster announcement from Nintendo just came out: Cloud Strife will join Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and WiiU! Nintendo hosted a character poll where gamers could put in a vote for whichever character they would want to appear as the next DLC character in the game. The poll closed in October 3, and from all the fan nominations, the developers ultimately chose the protagonist of Final Fantasy VII, who will now officially join the roster despite debuting on the Sony PlayStation.
This makes Cloud the sixth guest character to appear in the Smash series, following Solid Snake (in Super Smash Bros. Brawl), Sonic the Hedgehog, Rockman, Pac-Man and Ryu. His addition also makes Square Enix the fifth third-party collaborator to join the series after Konami, Capcom, Sega and Bandai Namco.

The opening theme song, "Sekai wa Hitotsu no Butai" (The World is One Stage) is composed by Yuzo Koshiro, with lyrics by Monolith Soft's Souichiro Morizumi, and performed by marina.
The game launched in Japan last Thursday, and has received a 32/40 rating from Famitsu. Developer Koji Ishitani earlier assured that all the content of the localized version will basically be the same with the Japanese release, so players waiting for its worldwide launch on February 16, 2016 (February 19 in some countries) can expect to have the song in its full glory in their own copies. Many were disappointed when the original Project X Zone was released only in Japan in 2012. It's thanks to TEKKEN Project director Katsuhiro Harada's push to have the game localized that non-Japanese-speaking gamers were able to enjoy the game with English subtitles in June 2013. Now, Monolith Soft aims to take this up more than a notch with their sequel, Project X Zone 2: Brave New World, when it gets released overseas in 2016. Not only will PXZ2 be released in Japan, America and Europe; it will also reach the shores of Taiwan, Hong Kong and South Korea. The game keeps the characters' respective Japanese voices intact, but the story can now be understood in the players' language of choice. As I've written in my first-ever PXZ2-related news, the American version will have English, French and Spanish subtitles, while the European release will also include Italian and German subtitles aside from the aforementioned. The Korean release, naturally, will have Korean subtitles, while Taiwan and Hong Kong will get the game in plain Japanese. According to Monolith Soft's Koji Ishitani, these seven languages represented a 350% increase in the workload for localization alone. He also explained that PXZ2 has roughly double the amount of text compared to its predecessor, thereby making it a 700% increase in workload for the localization team. It also called for an increase in the size of the text window, as most translated text tend to be longer than in Japanese. The game also adds subtitle text windows that appear during pre- and post-battle scenes, mid-battle cut-ins and at the shop, for the benefit of players who want to understand what the characters are saying. This option can be toggled on or off, unlike in the original. PXZ also suffered form omissions, as the game's Japanese opening and ending themes--not to mention a lot of in-game soundtracks--were absent in the localized version due to legal constraints. Ishitani reveals that unlike the original, the content of PXZ2's localized versions will be "basically" the same as the original Japanese release, so we're rest assured to hear the game's opening theme song, marina's "Sekai wa Hitotsu no Butai", in its full glory.
And lastly, Japanese Nintendo 3DS owners can now digitally pre-order the game from the Nintendo eShop. When PXZ2 launches next week, those who have pre-ordered the game through eShop can connect online and unlock their copy of the game. The localized versions of PXZ2 will be available on February 16 (America) and February 19 (Europe), 2016. The Australasian release is yet to have a definite date next year. Source: Perfectly Nintendo Bandai Namco revealed through a recent episode of its live streaming show 876 TV that another villain is returning in Project X Zone: Brave New World. VAVA, known as Vile in the West, returns to seek vengeance against Maverick Hunters X and Zero, this time in his MkII form. He will join Sigma, the recurring final boss in the Rockman X series, to antagonize the heroes in the cyberspace world based on Cyber Kujacker's (Cyber Peacock) stage in Rockman X4. The live stream demoed the Original Game Sound Edition of PXZ2, which will be available in Japan at the same time as the standard edition starting November 12. The localized version will be available in America on February 16, 2016, and in Europe on February 19 of the same year.
Here's to hoping that the West gets the same (or at least a similar) edition. And I'm still hoping that Albert Wesker will show up in the game. Bandai Namco has officially revealed the recently leaked characters in the upcoming colossal crossover RPG Project X Zone 2: Brave New World. In addition, they also introduce new villains and non-playable event characters who will appear in the game.
Ingrid (Street Fighter ZERO3 Double Upper) and Ryo Hazuki (Shenmue) join the game as Solo Units along with the returning Estelle (Tales of Vesperia), while Vega/M. Bison (Street Fighter II), Pyron (Vampire/Darkstalkers), Black Hayato (Star Gladiator), Ranmaru (Sakura Wars) and Metal Face (Xenoblade Chronicles) wreak havoc anew with T-elos (Xenosaga) as Rival Units. Also, Ada Wong (Resident Evil 6), Miles Edgeworth/Reiji Mitsurugi (Ace Attorney/Gyakuten Saiban), Tiki (Fire Emblem Awakening), Cardinal Garigliano (Resonance of Fate/End of Eternity) and Tarosuke (Yokai Dochuki) will have their share of the limelight in the game's story. Check out the recently revealed cast's official character artworks, in-game portraits and screenshots after the break. Three more characters are confirmed to appear in Project X Zone 2: Brave New World after screenshots of the Korean version of the game leaked out recently. Ingrid from Capcom Fighting Jam/Evolution joins the cast along with Ryo Hazuki from Shenmue, and Estellise Sidos Heurassein aka Estelle from Tales of Vesperia makes her return to the much-awaited crossover sequel. Ingrid and Estelle join the game as Solo Units, while it's still unknown whether Ryo will be a Solo Unit as well or he'll be paired with another character, though it's most likely he'll go solo. There is no definite date yet as to when the three characters will be officially introduced. PXZ2 launches in Japan for the Nintendo 3DS on November 12, and in America and Europe on February 16 and 19 next year, respectively.
Project X Zone 2: Brave New World will not be just a crossover between Capcom, Sega and Bandai Namco anymore; it has just been revealed at the Tokyo Game Show that Nintendo will now also be represented by three guest characters in this epic crossover! Chrom and Lucina from Fire Emblem: Awakening join the game as a Pair Unit, as well as Fiora from Xenoblade Chronicles, who pairs up with the returning KOS-MOS from the Xenosaga series. Fire Emblem: Awakening was developed by Intelligent Systems, while Xenoblade was developed by Monolith Soft, the studio responsible for this colossal collaboration that also made Xenosaga.
PXZ2 is due release in Japan on November 12 in Japan, February 16, 2016 in North America and February 19, 2016 in Europe. There is no word yet regarding the release of the Original Game Sound Edition in the West. Endnote: Just when I thought this game is already a must-have as it is, things get even better! Check out the latest trailer for the much-awaited Nintendo 3DS crossover RPG Project X Zone 2: Brave New World shown at the Tokyo Game Show featuring all the playable characters so far. The trailer also hypes the game's Original Game Sound Edition that includes original versions of in-game tracks, the classic action-adventure game Adventure of Valkyrie: Legend of the Key of Time featuring Namco X Capcom heroine Xiaomu, a downloadable Project X Zone 2 3DS Home theme, and a special Namco X Capcom 10th Anniversary art by Takuji Kawano that also appears in another downloadable 3DS Home theme included in the package. The game series featured in the game are enumerated at the end of the trailer, followed by an emphatic "and more," saying that there are more featured series to be revealed in the game until it reaches its Japanese launch date on November 12. Monolith Soft will also localize and release the game in the American and European regions in early 2016. The Eurpoean release will have English, French, German, Italian and Spanish subtitles. Check out these screenshots from the animated opening movie of Project X Zone 2: Brave New World. Yasutoshi Iwasaki supervised the production of the game's anime intro by animation studio Graphinica. The game's opening and ending songs, "Sekai wa Hitotsu no Butai" (The World is a Stage) and "Tsukiakari no Curtain Call" (Moonlight's Curtain Call), are both composed by NXC composer Yuzo Koshiro, with lyrics by Monolith Soft's Souichiro Morizumi and performed by marina. And looking at one of the screenshots, it looks like Nemesis T-Type (Biohazard/Resident Evil) will also return as an enemy unit.
PXZ2, a Nintendo 3DS exclusive, will be released on November 12 in Japan and in early 2016 in North America and Europe. |
